Endoscopy is a valuable tool when it comes to looking at the insides of a dog or cat. An endoscope is a flexible tube with a viewing port and/or a camera attachment that is inserted either into the stomach through the mouth or the colon via the rectum. The endoscope permits inspection of the inside of these organs. If the stomach is being examined, the esophagus can be inspected as the endoscope is being passed into the stomach.
It is impossible for us to perform endoscopy on an animal that is awake, therefore each patient is administered a general anesthetic with IV fluids after pre-anesthetic bloodwork.
Dr. Bob has used our endoscope for procedures such as retrieving foreign objects, biopsies of the stomach and intestines, and exploring the nasal cavity (in dogs).
